Full text of the Strategy

“The End of Life Care Strategy published in July 2008 included a commitment to publish Quality Markers for End of Life Care.

This was a response to the SHA Pathway Chairs for the NHS Next Stage Review, who identified the need for a national approach in order to raise the quality of care for people at the end of life. The SHA Pathway Chairs helped produce the consultation draft which was published in November 2008. This publication reflects the comments we received through the consultation.”

Canadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan – February 2009

The Canadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan has been released, and is described as “a road map for improving the heart health of Canadians from prevention to patient care.” The cost of the plan, which is yet to be funded, is estimated at $100 million a year over seven years, but it is also calculated that it can save the economy $7.6 billion in direct costs and $14.6 billion in indirect costs by 2020. Be active, be healthy: a plan for getting the nation moving – UK Dept of Health 19 February 2009

This publication establishes a new framework for the delivery of physical activity alongside sport for the period leading up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games and beyond. Programmes outlined in the plan will contribute to the government’s ambition of getting 2 million more people active by 2012 and have been designed to leave a lasting legacy from the Games. The report also sets out new ideas for local authorities and PCTs to help determine and respond to the needs of their local populations as well delivering overall cost savings.
