Final Report on the Scoping Study for a National Not For Profit (NFP) Regulator – Treasury – 4 July 2011

“Abstract: The Assistant Treasurer has released the Final Report on the scoping study for a national NFP regulator.

During the 2010 election campaign the Government outlined its commitment to reform Australia’s NFP sector to deliver smarter regulation, reduce red tape and improve the transparency and accountability of the sector.

The Government tasked Treasury with undertaking a scoping study to determine the role, functions, feasibility and design options for a ‘one stop shop’ NFP regulator.

On 21 January 2011, the Government released a consultation paper on the design options for a national NFP regulator. The consultation paper discussed the features of a best practice regulatory framework and sought the views of stakeholders in relation the goals, scope, functions and form of a national regulator.

The Final Report outlines the views put forward by stakeholders during consultation, provides analysis of the design options for a national NFP regulator and makes recommendations on the direction of reforms to strengthen the NFP sector.”
